A box of tapes arrived for the next release, the Canadian variant of Smile When They Flash Their Knives. ATAK is releasing this star-studded album on digital, vinyl and cassette, but they enlisted Hand’Solo Records (Canada) and Pen Thief Records (Europe) to release regional-specific versions with exclusive remixes. The album drops May 3 (Bandcamp Friday) but we’ll have the pre-order up soon.

The first single from Mickey O’Brien’s upcoming remix album of Orebody is out now…
With a vibe reminiscent of A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, and Gang Starr, Mickey O’Brien’s “The Medicine”, has everything that is good about positive 90s hiphop. The remix by Uncle Fester adds a touch of jazz and a g-funk flare while DJ Versatile’s turntablism brings that DJ Premier flavour. On this first single from his upcoming Orebody – The Remix Album, Mickey raps about overcoming struggles and living life to the fullest with hope as the medicine to carry on and persevere against all odds. As he says on the chorus, he’s “all in, all in”.

The second single and title track from Fortunato x The Dirty Sample’s collab album is out now…
“The Coalition” is a love letter from Fortunato to his fans. He illustrates his commitment to providing wisdom and guidance to his listeners during the hook. “As a veteran of the rap game, I feel it’s my duty to share my experience and knowledge” says Fortunato. “The Coalition” is the title track of the album and refers to the cross country collaboration between Fortunato and producer The Dirty Sample. The single also includes a a remix by Pasquale which starkly contrasts the album version with a downbeat low tempo interpretation that feels slightly psychedelic.
